I was listening to music on itunes when the laptop suddenly started to make a horrible, loud noise coming from inside the machine, and it froze. I turned it off and back on again, and it told me it couldn't find (or didn't recognise?) the hard drive. I restarted it a few times, but it wouldn't boot up properly. Eventually it told me to insert the Windows installation disc (I think) and so I put in the system recovery disc I made when the computer was bought (a couple of months ago). It opened Dell DataSafe Local Backup, and I went through the options to restore the computer.
The screen it currently shows says:
'Restore my Computer

The problem is that this screen has been the same for quite some time now (I estimate 30-45 mins) and whilst I would expect it to take a long time, the loading bar is showing as full, and the moving icon that shows it's working is not moving. I am wondering whether I should be patient and wait this out, or whether the system has frozen - and if so, what do I do?
I am panicking because I'm not much of a tech whizz, and this is my partner's computer, which I was using whilst she was out at work - I will be killed if it's not fixed before she finds out!
Can anybody give me any advice, tell me what happened or what I should do next??
